The mosquitoes aren't the only things thriving this summer: Overall, the perennials we planted are doing well. Here are some before and after shots from the last 3-5 weeks.
- Front Right Garden: The poppies are sprouting - still only 5 out of 6, though. You'll note in the "after" photo that there are also a lot of tiny green friends growing around our poppy. It's strange...they didn't show up last year. I wonder what their agenda is.

The stonecrop (sedum) and Hens & Chicks are growing nicely. Check out the flowers (yellow on the stonecrop, pink on the Hens & Chicks). I apologize that the "after" photo is a bit out of focus. I was being attacked by a fleet of mosquitoes. And being heckled by someone driving by, who apparently thinks my pajamas are "righteous." (Who knew people would be out and about at 6:00 on a Saturday morning?)

June 28: - Shade Garden: With the exception of the one drowned hosta (presumed dead) and one Solomon's Seal that has failed to sprout (I'm gonna say presumed dormant on that one, for I am ever the optimist), the shade garden seems to be doing okay-ish. Certainly the hydrangea (in the far back) is filling out nicely, and there's some hope for the Helleborus (they bloom in winter -- don't judge me!). Overall, though, I am concerned that the soil may be too wet and clay-ey even for these shade-loving plants. Clearly it did not agree with the hosta that was formerly in the center of the hosta trio (mid-garden). Check out the before and after...

June 28: - The Dead Zone: All three varietals I planted seem to be doing well beneath the black walnut trees, although the leaves of the Astilbe Fanal have changed color from light to dark green. Here are some then and now photos...
